CIVIC & GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS COUNCIL
Vice Chair: Anthony Kaiser, Realty Executives
MISSION: To be a pro-active advocate for the business community and members on issues, obstacles and strategies regarding civic and governmental affairs.
OBJECTIVES:
- Support GUMBO (Gulf United Metro Business Organizations).
- Host election year forums.
- Review legislative updates via GUMBO.
- Communicate with government officials on a regular basis regionally.
- Monitor State Park re-development through GUMBO.
- Business advocates for the membership.
- Monitor infrastructure issues.
- Support Horizon 20/20 and Envision Gulf Shores.
- Participate with AL Gulf Coast Education Foundation (AGCACC has seat on board).
- Monitor insurance issues through GUMBO.
MEMBERSHIP COUNCIL
Vice Chair: Phil Colquette, Gulf Publishing Co., Inc.
MISSION: To encourage and retain membership.
OBJECTIVES:
- Produce a successful annual membership drive
- Review/improve membership dues schedule.
- Continue to enhance communication opportunities from the Chamber to the membership.
- Encourage active participation from the membership and Board of Directors.
MARINE TRADES COUNCIL
Vice Chair: Tom Steber, Zeke’s Landing Marina
MISSION: To protect the Fishing Industry of the Alabama Gulf Coast.
OBJECTIVES:
- Communicate with regulatory officials concerning critical fishing industry issues.
- Inform and educate the public concerning issues that relate to the marine industry.
- Support the Red Snapper World Championship and assist with event publicity (April 21-May 22).
- Support the OBFA events and meetings.
- Work with South Alabama Marina Alliance.
- Participate in attracting additional tournaments.
RETAIL & BUSINESS SERVICES COUNCIL
Vice Chair: Sean Chappell, King Fine Cleaners, Inc.
MISSION: To provide leadership and counseling to area
retailers and businesses to help increase stability and growth.
OBJECTIVES:
- To publish and improve the 2007 Shopping/ Dining/Attractions Guide.
- Continue to promote and improve the Member-To-Member Discount Program and add 50 new participants.
- Promote the “Shop the Island First” program.
- Develop and enhance business counseling services.
- Investigate additional seminars and forums.
ANNUAL NATIONAL SHRIMP FESTIVAL COUNCIL
Vice Chair: Ron Kutter, Kutter’s Grounds Maintenance, Inc.
MISSION: To produce the Annual National Shrimp Festival.
OBJECTIVES:
- To generate revenue for 2007 Budget.
- Monitor logistics of site and participate in planning for Gulf Place and/or future sites.
TOURISM & SPECIAL EVENTS COUNCIL
Vice Chair: Lester Bryant, Lester’s, Inc.
MISSION: To produce special events encouraging tourism.
OBJECTIVES:
- Produce the 2007 SF Golf Tournament.
- Partner with the Coastal Wine Tour.
- Promote the powerboat race in August.
- Organize and participate in Mardi Gras parades-GS & OB.
- Produce the Lighted Boat Parade.
- Research shoulder season event possibilities.
- Evaluate the potential of a spring event in Orange Beach.
- Participate in Sports Commission.
- Investigate in cooperation with the CVB ways to enhance the tourism value of Fort Morgan.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
Vice Chair: Greg Kennedy, Greg Kennedy Builder, Inc.
MISSION: To establish a working plan among the Chamber, BCEDA, City of Gulf Shores, and City of Orange Beach on all economic development activities.
OBJECTIVES:
- Assist with prospects.
- Support Joint Technology Committee.
- Work with City of Gulf Shores as it relates to the Airport Authority.
- Continue Job Shadow program.
- Utilize the Shrimp Festival for economic development.
- Work with the Waterway Authority.
- Work with workforce issues.
- Explore opportunities to bring film industry to Alabama Gulf Coast.
- Evaluate Education Council opportunity (i.e. Faulkner State, vocational schools, future Island School, and University of South Alabama).
- Investigate Leadership Trip.
CONSERVATION & NATURAL RESOURCES COUNCIL
Vice Chair: Ike Williams, Ike’s Beach Service, Inc.
MISSION: To preserve and enhance the natural resources of the Alabama Gulf Coast through education and communication.
OBJECTIVES:
- Support beach renourishment.
- Actively monitor environmental issues and keep membership informed.
- Plan, produce, and enhance the Sustainable Tourism Summit.
FINANCE COUNCIL
Vice Chair: Kirsten Simmons, First Gulf Bank
MISSION: To ensure the availability of capital resources.
OBJECTIVES:
- Monitor budget compliance.
- Prepare annual and semi-annual budget in conjunction with the Finance Committee and Chamber staff.
- Determine increase in Restricted Funds Account.
- Work with the Building Committee to continue to evaluate new building issue.
